Lenovo in Brief - Panther Lake, Legion and User Issues

The last few days have brought a real avalanche of news from the Lenovo world - from enthusiastic reviews of laptops with Intel Panther Lake processors, through record-breaking Legion gaming results, to serious warnings about driver updates and battery failures. We have gathered everything worth knowing in one weekly roundup.
IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 and Yoga Pro 7i - Panther Lake goes mainstream
Intel Panther Lake is no longer the domain of top-tier models only - more and more Lenovo laptops with the new generation of processors are reaching reviewers and stores. The weekly roundup opens with two reviews from NotebookCheck, which show how widely Lenovo is stretching its Panther Lake-based range.
The Lenovo IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14 IPH11 with the Intel Core Ultra 5 322 processor is the cheapest variant of the new line. The six-core chip positions the device as a price-performance compromise for buyers who want a convertible with a modern platform but do not intend to overpay for the Core Ultra 9 386H. Reviewers praise the direction itself, while pointing out areas that need improvement - the main question is whether moderate performance makes up for the attractive price in a crowded 2-in-1 segment.
If you use an older IdeaPad 5 14, you will find original spare parts together with FRU numbers in the IdeaPad 5 14 parts guide.
At the other end of the range stands the Yoga Pro 7i 15 Aura Edition, which receives far more enthusiastic ratings. The laptop combines an Intel Panther Lake processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 graphics card and 32 GB of RAM, which guarantees smooth performance in demanding multimedia and creative tasks. The starting price is 2679 dollars - not a purchase for everyone, but the specification justifies it.
The undisputed star of the Yoga Pro 7i, however, is the 165 Hz OLED display with a brightness of as much as 1100 nits. It is one of the few 15-inch laptops on the market offering such a bright OLED panel, which makes working in any lighting conditions - including outdoors in full sun - comfortable. Lenovo proves that it can build a premium product around the display, and not just around the processor.

Legion Pro 7i 5070 Ti - a gaming beast in action
Reddit users are not sparing superlatives for the Legion Pro 7i with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics card. A post from the r/LenovoLegion subreddit, which attracted wide interest from the community, confirms what could be expected from the specification on paper: the laptop handles even the heaviest titles of 2026 excellently.
The author of the test played Forza Horizon 6 intensively for over 190 hours, and also tested Resident Evil 9, Pragmata and Starfield 2. In all cases the laptop ran at the display's native resolution and maximum graphics settings - without Ray Tracing and Frame Generation 2x, but also without any compromises in detail. The temperature during gaming sessions stayed at a safe, acceptable level, which with such a high computing power is not a given.
At the same time, the community is discussing the official Lenovo Legion Anti-Reflection Screen Protector designed for the Legion 5i gen 11. One user had it professionally installed and shares an honest assessment: light reflections are reduced to a minimum, the screen stops collecting fingerprints, and image quality in use remains flawless. The downsides are a slight drop in brightness and the loss of the characteristic glossy look when the screen is off. The protector is soft - it protects against scratches, but not against mechanical damage.

ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 and Linux - surprisingly good compatibility
A user with 30 years of Linux experience summed up his experience with CachyOS installed on a ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 Intel, and the result is surprising - in a positive sense. An HDMI 2.1 monitor, a USB sound card connected through a KVM switch and Steam games (Splendor was tested) work right away, without any additional configuration.
Thunderbolt support earned particular praise: a network connection with a MacBook worked without iommu parameters, without boltctl tools and without manually creating rules. The only manual action the system required was setting an IPv4 address - and only because the network had previously been configured on the MacBook. Typical ThinkPad features, such as the battery charge threshold, work natively, and the laptop correctly identifies the C170 charger and the C140 cable as a 140 W source.
The post sparked a lively discussion in the r/thinkpad community and is seen as a kind of manifesto of how far the Linux ecosystem has come in 2026. For potential ThinkPad buyers who were wondering about everyday use in an open-source environment, it is concrete and reliable proof that concerns about compatibility are largely unfounded.

Leaks and controversy - Yoga Pro 7 ARM and Legion Go 2 above 2000 dollars
The week also brought two hot pieces of news about the future of Lenovo's range. The first is a leak from WinFuture, revealed by Windows Report: the Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 is said to be one of the first laptops equipped with the new NVIDIA processors for the Windows on Arm architecture - specifically the N1X 650 and N1X 675 variants. This is a significant step for the whole ARM laptop segment, which until now has remained the domain of Qualcomm Snapdragon chips.
If the information is confirmed, the Yoga Pro 7 with an NVIDIA N1X chip may offer a new proposition for users looking for energy-efficient yet powerful portable devices. There is no official confirmation from Lenovo yet, but retail listings suggest that the launch is close.
The market received the news about Lenovo Legion Go 2 pricing far less enthusiastically. Windows Central published a sharp commentary criticising the fact that Lenovo's portable gaming console has crossed the 2000 dollar barrier. The author of the article does not hide his frustration - in his view, the current pricing trend in the PC handheld segment is unjustified and puts these devices out of reach of the average gamer. It is a topic that resonates across the whole industry, because similar criticisms apply to the competition as well.

Lenovo AI and major events - FIFA World Cup and Globee Awards
Lenovo is constantly expanding its presence beyond the consumer market. Last week the company showcased two significant initiatives at the enterprise and mass entertainment level. The first is a collaboration with Invisionary Media and Intel on a project for Newcastle United - Lenovo's flagship LUX-75 displays became the centrepiece of a new, immersive, AI-based experience for fans. It is a practical example of how Lenovo hardware reaches environments seemingly far from the desk or the conference room.
The partnership with FIFA is on an even larger scale. Lenovo Digital Workplace Solutions provide the technological foundation supporting the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 - from coordinating communication to managing operations on a global level. The company stresses that the success of such a demanding deployment confirms its ability to deliver comprehensive IT infrastructure for any project, regardless of its scale.
On top of that comes a double success at the Globee Awards 2026 - Gold and Silver in the AI category for solutions supporting manufacturing transformation. The awarded technologies help enterprises move from isolated automation to fully integrated, synchronised operations. It confirms that Lenovo is an active player in the race for AI dominance in industry, and not just a supplier of consumer hardware.

User problems - battery, overheating and a dangerous driver update
Not all of the week's news is positive. The Lenovo community on Reddit noted several significant problems that are worth knowing about before you take any repair or update action.
The most serious warning concerns the Intel Dynamic Tuning Technology Device Extension update dated 6 March 2026, available through the Lenovo Vantage app for the X9-14 model. After installing it, the laptop became practically unusable - the system slowed down to the limit of usability, and the processor's efficiency cores were constantly under maximum load. Trying to roll back the driver through Device Manager had no effect; the solution turned out to be restoring the system from a restore point, which in turn caused problems with some of the installed applications. The message is unambiguous: check online opinions before approving any driver update in Vantage.
The second problem is reported by IdeaPad users - specifically the device overheating already on the BIOS screen and during LUKS2 login in Linux distributions (Debian, Fedora, Arch). The fan immediately reaches maximum speed, and the temperature of the casing can rise to a level that threatens to burn a hand or a leg. Importantly, the problem is not new - it has persisted through successive years and successive firmware updates. Linux kernels below version 6.17 additionally have trouble regulating fan speed, which worsens the situation.
The third case is a battery failure in a Lenovo LOQ 15IAX9 bought only in September 2024 - after just 215 charge cycles the laptop stops working without the power adapter. The Lenovo Vantage tool shows contradictory results: a critical battery failure alongside a passed health test with a score of 95% and a capacity of 57.07 Wh against the designed 60 Wh. The device had not been dropped or modified. The case raises questions about the durability of the cells or the reliability of the Battery Management System in this model - and it will certainly go to warranty service.

On the side: Legion Phone Y70, Yoga ARM and mobile games
Two shorter but interesting threads close this weekly roundup. Lenovo officially showed the Legion Y70 - a new gaming smartphone that surprises with its restrained design. There is no RGB, no aggressive fans or pushy gaming ornaments here. Instead, the manufacturer opted for a vapor chamber providing effective cooling, a huge battery and a 6.8-inch screen. It lacks two USB ports, a microSD card reader and a headphone jack - a conscious choice that will not appeal to everyone, but for many mobile gamers it means a device focused on what really matters.
Meanwhile, on the r/lenovo subreddit a discussion appeared about a Lenovo Yoga with an ARM processor and compatibility with Call of Duty. The topic is important for buyers considering ARM laptops for gaming - the ARM architecture still means limitations in emulation and compatibility with titles compiled for x86. The experiences of user RoniSteam show real limitations that you have to take into account when choosing a Yoga ARM as a gaming platform.
