Lenovo in Brief — OLEDs, Battery Records and FIFA 2026

Lenovo in brief - OLEDs, battery records and FIFA 2026

The last few days have brought an avalanche of exciting news from the world of Lenovo - from a groundbreaking inkjet-printed OLED screen in the new Legion, through a record battery life in the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14, to new display brightness standards and a successful technology partnership with the FIFA World Cup 2026. If you want to know what is happening where innovation meets the practical use of Lenovo laptops, this roundup is for you.

Legion R9000P - the world meets the first laptop with an inkjet-printed OLED

Legion R9000P - the world meets the first laptop with an inkjet-printed OLED

Lenovo has officially unveiled the Legion R9000P - and it is a laptop that will go down in history. It is the world's first machine equipped with an OLED display produced using inkjet printing, developed by the Chinese company TCL CSOT after more than a decade of intensive research and development. At first glance this may sound like a technical curiosity, but the implications for the whole industry are huge.

The innovative 16-inch OLED panel offers a 240 Hz refresh rate and covers more than 99% of the DCI-P3 colour space. These are specifications that will satisfy both hardcore gamers and content creators who need faithful colour reproduction. What sets this screen apart from classic OLEDs, however, is the use of a Real RGB Stripe layout - the pixels are arranged side by side, rather than in the traditional delta or PenTile layout, which eliminates problems with text sharpness and colour fringing.

The key factor, however, is the cost potential of this technology. The traditional OLED production process using vacuum evaporation is extremely expensive and difficult to scale. Inkjet printing technology may significantly reduce the cost of manufacturing OLED panels in the future, making them available in the budget segment as well. The Legion R9000P is therefore not only a gaming beast, but also a harbinger of the democratisation of OLEDs in laptops.

ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14 - almost 24 hours of runtime and better repairability

In recent days the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14 has received reviews from two of the biggest industry outlets - CNET and NotebookCheck - and both bring very good news. The most talked-about result is the battery life: almost 24 hours in NotebookCheck's tests. It is a result that impresses even in the category of business ultrabooks, where 10-14 hours is considered standard.

Such an impressive runtime is possible thanks to an energy-efficient IPS panel with touch support and the new Intel Panther Lake processors, which Lenovo has deployed as one of the first manufacturers. The laptop optionally supports 5G connectivity, which makes it an exceptionally mobile work tool for managers and specialists on the road.

An equally important novelty is the redesigned Space Frame construction, which CNET drew attention to. The new frame layout is meant to extend the laptop's lifespan and improve its repairability - that is, the ease of servicing and replacing components. It is Lenovo's response to growing expectations of a sustainable approach to computer hardware: repair instead of throwing away. For owners of earlier generations of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon who are looking for spare parts, it is a sign that the servicing philosophy of this series is alive and well.

The input devices - keyboard and touchpad - remain at the level ThinkPad users have come to expect for years: precise, comfortable and reliable. The X1 Carbon Gen 14 confirms Lenovo's position as the undisputed leader of the premium business laptop segment.

Samsung revolutionises screen brightness - 1600 nits in Lenovo laptops

Samsung revolutionises screen brightness - 1600 nits in Lenovo laptops

Samsung Display has announced the start of mass shipments of new Tandem OLED panels to laptop manufacturers, and Lenovo is at the top of the list of beneficiaries of this technology. The new panels reach a peak brightness of up to 1600 nits - an increase of about 40% compared with previous single-layer OLED screens, which topped out at around 1100 nits.

Tandem OLED technology involves using two light-emitting layers instead of one. Each layer works under a lower load, which not only increases brightness but also extends the panel's lifespan - OLED degradation has so far been one of the main concerns of users of this technology. At the same time, black depth stays at just 0.0005 nits, which meets the requirements of the new VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 standard.

The first laptop to hit the market with this screen will be the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition with a 16-inch OLED display. Besides Lenovo, Asus, MSI and Dell will also benefit from Samsung's new panels. For users working in bright rooms or outdoors, higher screen brightness is a real improvement in comfort and usability - not just a figure on paper.

Legion 9 and ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 AMD - strong updates for demanding users

Legion 9 and ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 AMD - strong updates for demanding users

Lenovo has quietly but effectively refreshed its flagship gaming laptop - the Legion 9 18IAX10. The novelty is the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor from the Arrow Lake HX architecture, which offers about a 7% performance increase over the previous Core Ultra 9 275HX. The configuration of the remaining components has stayed almost unchanged: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop and RTX 5090 Laptop graphics cards are available, and the maximum amount of DDR5 4000 RAM reaches as much as 192 GB. The 18-inch 240 Hz screen still ranks among the best in the gaming segment.

At the same time, the Reddit community has been commenting on the ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 AMD, which has collected flattering opinions after a week of use. Users particularly appreciate Lenovo's decision to use SODIMM memory (as opposed to the more expensive and harder to obtain LPCAMM2 used in the Intel version), which lowers the cost of any upgrades and repairs. The 75 Wh battery provides 8-9 hours of runtime under Linux at full brightness - a solid result for a business-class machine.

The T14 Gen 7 AMD also stands out for its excellent Linux compatibility (tested on Rocky 10.2), great 100% RGB touchscreen quality and physical TrackPoint buttons. Among the drawbacks, users point to the lack of HDMI and USB-A ports on the expansion cards - these connectors are located on the motherboard, which limits flexibility. However, this does not change the generally positive assessment of the model.

ThinkPad T440p with Linux - old hardware is still alive

ThinkPad T440p with Linux - old hardware is still alive

Not all interesting news concerns 2026 launches. A post appeared on Reddit that attracted a lot of interest from the community: a user described his week with a ThinkPad T440p - a machine with a fourth-generation Intel Core i7-4600M processor, 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD. The laptop came into his hands as a replacement for a Dell Inspiron, and at the same time it marked the start of his adventure with Linux in the form of the CachyOS distribution.

The results? Clearly positive. The ThinkPad T440p survived two drops unscathed, smoothly runs Minecraft and Stardew Valley, and the keyboard and touchpad were praised for their ergonomics. The user spent 40 hours learning the system and discovered the world of "ricing" - customising the Linux graphical environment. It is a classic example of how the solid engineering of ThinkPads from the past decade translates into the longevity of hardware that serves new generations of users.

For owners of similar older models, the good news is that original spare parts for T-series ThinkPads are still available - which allows for an economical repair instead of replacing the whole laptop. The T series has long been famous for its modularity and ease of servicing, and Lenovo continues this philosophy in successive generations.

Lenovo at the FIFA World Cup 2026 and in supercomputing centres

Lenovo at the FIFA World Cup 2026 and in supercomputing centres

Lenovo does not limit itself to the consumer laptop market. Last week the company boasted of its success as the main technology partner of the FIFA World Cup 2026‚Ñ¢ - the biggest football tournament in history. Lenovo's solutions included AI systems for match analysis, innovative technologies supporting referees' decisions, and the entire IT infrastructure supporting live broadcasts and real-time data processing. Thanks to this, the tournament earned the title of the most technologically advanced World Cup in history.

At the same time, Lenovo announced two significant projects in the area of HPC (High-Performance Computing). Azerbaijan has launched its first Supercomputer Centre built on Lenovo ThinkSystem servers - a milestone in the country's technological development and proof of public institutions' trust in Lenovo infrastructure. In turn, the University of Southampton has signed a four-year strategic agreement under which Lenovo will become the preferred supplier of computing solutions for advanced research projects.

Both projects confirm that Lenovo is not only a laptop manufacturer, but a full-fledged player in the enterprise and HPC segment, building infrastructure for science, sport and public administration around the world.

The PC market is growing, but RAM prices will not return - and YMTC drives in ThinkBooks

The PC market is growing, but RAM prices will not return - and YMTC drives in ThinkBooks

Global PC shipments grew by 3.2% year on year in Q1 2026 - to 63.3 million units. Lenovo maintains its position as the world leader with a 26% market share and 16.5 million units shipped (up 9% year on year). It is good news for the industry, although analysts warn that the growth was driven partly by preparations for the end of support for Windows 10 and by rising RAM prices - which does not necessarily translate into long-term optimism.

On this matter, Lenovo itself has spoken. At the International Supercomputing Conference ISC 2026, the company explicitly warned that the era of cheap RAM is gone for good. The record-low prices from the beginning of 2025 were an anomaly, not the norm. The growth in RAM demand generated by artificial intelligence applications is effectively changing the rules of the game - and according to Lenovo, a return to the old prices may not happen for many years. The company even prepared a "Five-Step Guide to Surviving RAMageddon", which shows how seriously it treats this topic.

Additional controversy was sparked by a discovery from NotebookCheck: the Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G9 IPL sold in the USA is equipped with a YMTC SSD - a Chinese memory manufacturer that has been on the US Entity List since 2022. The drive's performance was rated below average for an office laptop in this price class (over 1100 USD). As a Chinese manufacturer, Lenovo can legally use these components, but the very fact that YMTC drives have appeared in laptops sold on the American market is a novelty worth watching.
