The keyboard is one of the most frequently replaced parts in Lenovo laptops. Choosing the right one isn't hard once you know what to look for. Below we'll take you through it step by step.
1. The most reliable method - the FRU number
Every original Lenovo keyboard has an FRU number (e.g. 04X0215, 00JT864) - a unique part code. If you know the FRU of your old keyboard, the match is 100% certain. You'll find the FRU on the label on the keyboard itself or in the Lenovo service documentation (HMM - Hardware Maintenance Manual).
In our shop the FRU is in the name and description of most keyboards - just type it into the search.
2. Backlight - BL or not
The same keyboard often comes in two versions: backlit (BL - backlight) and non-backlit. The versions are NOT interchangeable (different connector/cable). Check whether your laptop has a backlit keyboard - if so, look for the BL marking.
3. Key layout
- QWERTY (US) - the most popular, a standard for work and programming.
- QWERTZ / other national layouts - if you need a specific key legend.
- TrackPoint - in ThinkPads the keyboard is integrated with the red pointing stick; choose the version dedicated to your series.
4. How to check your laptop's model and FRU
- Turn the laptop over - on the bottom you'll find the type/model (e.g.
20HD) and the serial number (S/N). - Enter the serial number on the Lenovo support site to see the exact configuration.
- Most reliably: remove the old keyboard and read the FRU from the label.
