How to identify your X1 Carbon generation?

What matters when choosing X1 Carbon parts?
- The generation must match - cases, palmrest, hinges, keyboard and battery differ between generations and are generally not interchangeable. Choose a part described for your generation.
- Charging method - generations 1-4 charge via a plug, and from Gen 5 (2017) only over USB-C / Thunderbolt. This matters e.g. for the power jack.
