⚙️ PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS

The 5B40S21899 bracket (Lenovo: Bracket L 81LH For 2242 SSD) is a metal plate that lets you mount a shorter M.2 2242 SSD in a laptop whose slot is designed for M.2 2280 drives. It has a press-fitted mounting standoff, a semicircular mounting notch at the opposite end, a transparent insulating film underneath and black tape with a pull tab. Without this bracket an M.2 2242 drive has no point to be screwed down to.

❓ WHEN SHOULD YOU REPLACE THE M.2 SSD BRACKET?

• Problem with a missing bracket - you want to fit an M.2 2242 drive, but there is nothing in the laptop to screw it to
• Problem with a loose SSD - the 2242 drive moves in the slot and the system sometimes loses it
• Problem with a bent or damaged plate - after an earlier repair the bracket no longer holds the drive level
• Problem with a stripped thread in the standoff - the drive screw spins in place and will not tighten

🔧 INSTALLATION PROCESS

1. Turn off the laptop and disconnect the power and all external devices
2. Remove the M2.5 x 7 screws securing the bottom cover and carefully take it off
3. Disconnect the battery from the motherboard
4. Remove the M2 x 3.5 screw securing the SSD and slide the drive out of the M.2 slot
5. Fit the 5B40S21899 bracket at the drive mounting point, in the same position as from the factory
6. Insert the M.2 2242 drive into the slot at an angle, press it down onto the bracket and secure it to the standoff with the M2 x 3.5 screw
7. Reconnect the battery, refit the bottom cover and tighten the screws
8. Start the laptop and check that the drive is visible in BIOS and in the operating system
Replacement by a technical service or a person experienced in laptop repairs is recommended.
