Lenovo in Brief - New Legion, ThinkPads and AI PCs

Lenovo in brief - New Legions, ThinkPads and AI PCs in the spotlight

The last few days have brought an avalanche of news from the world of Lenovo - from a complete refresh of the Legion and ThinkPad lines for 2026, through futuristic laptop concepts with rollable screens, to the company CFO's announcement that AI PCs will become the standard as early as 2027. On top of that, Lenovo is building a command center for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and launching a cashback promotion of up to 2000 PLN. We have gathered all the key news in one place - enjoy the read.

Lenovo Legion 2026: new AMD and Intel models with new naming

Lenovo has officially announced a refresh of its Legion gaming line for 2026. The most important change, however, is not the specifications themselves but the new naming scheme: AMD models receive the suffix "a" (Legion 7a, Legion 5a), while Intel variants keep the traditional "i" (Legion 7i, Legion 5i). This solution is meant to help customers find their way around the range and clearly differentiate the hardware platforms.

The 2025 flagship models - Legion 9i, Legion Pro 7i and Legion Pro 5i - remain unchanged, because the lack of new HX chips and next-generation RTX cards did not justify updating the chassis. The novelties focus on the mid-range segment: Legion 7a is an AMD version based on the premium Legion 7i chassis, while Legion 5a and Legion 5i target more budget-conscious gamers. The range is rounded out by cheaper models from the LOQ 15 series.

In March 2026, Lenovo additionally surprised with the compact Legion 7a 15 model based on the AMD Strix Halo architecture. AMD Ryzen AI 400 Gorgon Point and Intel Panther Lake Core Ultra Series 3 processors power the entire new generation, delivering a solid leap in AI capabilities and energy efficiency. All the new models have been designed with good value in mind for their price segments.

ThinkPad X1 Carbon gen 14 and X9 15p - premium ultrabooks on Panther Lake

Lenovo has carried out a comprehensive premium refresh of the ThinkPad line for 2026. ThinkPad X1 Carbon gen 14 abandons the limited Lunar Lake V platform (used in gen 13) in favor of the more powerful Panther Lake Core Ultra X7 processor, which goes hand in hand with a redesigned chassis and an improved cooling system. What is impressive is that, despite significantly greater computing power, the laptop still weighs less than 1 kg.

As for displays, users can choose between two variants: OLED 2.8K (2880√ó1800 px) with a 120 Hz refresh rate, 500 nits SDR brightness and 100% DCI-P3 coverage - or a classic IPS FHD (1920√ó1200 px) 60 Hz with 400 nits brightness. Both screens keep a 16:10 aspect ratio, which is the standard in professional ultraportables.

The family is completed by ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 gen 11 and the new ThinkPad X9 15p - a refreshed model offering a larger screen while preserving the ultraportability philosophy characteristic of the X1 line. The move to Panther Lake means a real speed-up in computing and AI tasks, which makes these machines attractive to professionals who value mobility without performance compromises.

Yoga Pro 9i and IdeaPad Pro 5i gen 11 - OLED and RTX 5000 for creators

Lenovo's Pro line has also received a solid update. Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition is a 16-inch premium ultrabook aimed at professionals and content creators. At the heart of the machine is a Panther Lake processor accompanied by an RTX 5000 graphics card and a 3.2K Tandem OLED display - a combination that looks hugely impressive on paper, both in terms of performance and image quality.

The slightly more compact Yoga Pro 7i Aura Edition offers a 15-inch 2.5K OLED screen with similar specifications, but with lower power consumption - which translates into longer battery life. It is a proposition for those who need creative power but value mobility and longer endurance.

The IdeaPad Pro 5i line includes two variants: a 16-inch model with a 2.8K OLED display, an Intel Panther Lake processor and an RTX 5000 card, and a more affordable 14-inch variant with Core Ultra X chips and longer battery life. The four new models with 11th-generation processors form a coherent offer for different budgets and requirements - from the mobile creator to the demanding analyst.

ThinkPad T16 Gen 5 AMD - great chassis, disappointing display

Reviewers at Notebookcheck have published an extensive review of the ThinkPad T16 Gen 5 AMD and the results are mixed. On the plus side, the new chassis definitely deserves credit, as it has significantly improved the device's repairability - which matters a great deal for an enterprise-class business laptop. A noticeable improvement in speaker quality is another reason to be pleased.

However, the biggest criticism concerns the display. Considering the high starting price of this model, the panel used disappoints in terms of color reproduction and brightness. Professionals who spend many hours in front of the screen may feel a dissonance between the premium price and the budget image quality. The base model also struggles with lower performance, which is worth keeping in mind when configuring your purchase.

The discussion on Reddit in the r/thinkpad thread confirms that this opinion about the screen is widespread among users. The community points out that investing in a good external monitor may be a necessity for demanding users. Even so, the laptop cannot be denied its solid, durable build, extensive port selection and the set of business features characteristic of the ThinkPad brand.

Legion Pro Rollable and ThinkPad XD concepts - the screens of the future

Lenovo has presented two futuristic concepts that could revolutionize the laptop market. Legion Pro Rollable is a 16-inch gaming laptop based on the Legion Pro 7i chassis, whose display extends horizontally up to 24 inches in a 21:9 format. This is not a subtle change - it is a real leap from a compact portable screen to a cinematic format, offering significantly more workspace and gaming space without the need to connect an external monitor.

Under the hood of the concept lie impressive specifications: a Core Ultra 9 HX processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card, expandable RAM and SSD, a 99 Wh battery and an advanced cooling system with a vapor chamber. The second concept - ThinkPad XD - uses similar rollable OLED screen technology, but in the context of a professional business laptop.

Lenovo is not a complete newcomer in this field - the company previously implemented rollable technology in the ThinkBook Plus Pro, where a 14-inch screen extends vertically to 16.7 inches. Both new concepts are for now just visions with no specific release date, but the manufacturer suggests that commercialization could happen within a year or two. That is enough of a signal to follow further announcements closely.

Lenovo and the FIFA World Cup 2026 - AI at the heart of World Cup command

Lenovo is getting involved in the FIFA World Cup 2026 on an unprecedented scale. The company is building an Intelligent Command Center, which is meant to provide FIFA with a real-time operational picture - enabling the monitoring and coordination of processes during the most complex football tournament in history. The system will process data streams from multiple sources simultaneously, ensuring instant communication between operational teams spread across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Lenovo's Hybrid AI technology is the foundation of the entire undertaking. The solution enables real-time decision-making - both in the context of managing venues and teams, and of enhancing the fan experience. Advanced analytics of data from sensors, cameras and broadcast systems allows organizers to react instantly to any situation on and off the pitch.

On the occasion of the World Cup, Lenovo has also launched a special promotion for Polish consumers. Up to 2000 PLN in cashback can be obtained when purchasing selected laptops and devices from the manufacturer's current range. The campaign is time-limited, and details are available on the Lenovo Poland website - for gamers and professionals planning a hardware upgrade, this is a good moment to take advantage of the festive sporting atmosphere and real savings.

AI PCs going mainstream in 2027, ThinkPad T460 vs. Land Cruiser and the modding community

Winston Cheng, Lenovo's chief financial officer, appeared on CNBC with a bold forecast: PCs with built-in artificial intelligence will become mainstream by 2027. According to the CFO, growing spending by companies and government institutions around the world will sustain the momentum of the AI PC market over the coming years. Lenovo is positioning itself as a key player in this transformation, ready to respond to growing demand in every segment - from business to gaming and education.

At the other end of the technological spectrum, ThinkPad enthusiasts on Reddit have proved that the legendary durability of these machines is not just marketing. A user drove the wheel of a 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser (with the additional weight of the engine) over a ThinkPad T460. The result? The laptop booted without problems into Windows 11, the screen did not crack, and all components worked correctly. It is genuine proof of Lenovo's design philosophy - machines built for extreme field conditions. And when such a veteran needs a refresh after years of service, spare parts for the ThinkPad T460 will extend its life.

Meanwhile, the ThinkPad modding community is celebrating progress on the X210Ai project - a new motherboard that enables upgrading the iconic X200 and X201 models. The project's creators have announced that work is under way on delivering the second batch of boards, thanking fans for their patience. The initiative is enjoying growing interest among enthusiasts who want to breathe new life into their classic ThinkPads instead of replacing them with new hardware.
