Lenovo Vantage - Complete Guide to Laptop and Battery Management
Where to download Lenovo Vantage?
Open Microsoft Store, search for "Lenovo Vantage", click Get and install. The app recognises your laptop model and shows the features available for it. On business machines you may also find "Lenovo Commercial Vantage" with extra options for IT departments.
Driver and system updates
On first launch go to System Update. Vantage checks for updates to the BIOS and drivers for the network card, audio, camera, touchpad and other components. Drivers installed through Vantage are prepared for your model, which is safer than looking for them on random websites.
Device settings
In Device Settings you will find, among others:
- Camera - privacy mode and image settings
- Microphone - level and noise suppression (on selected models)
- Keyboard and touchpad - sensitivity, disabling the touchpad when a mouse is connected, function key behaviour (if the touchpad stops working after the Windows 11 update, see this guide)
- Eye Care - less eye strain by adjusting the display colour temperature
Power and battery
Power modes
- Battery saving - lower brightness and limited performance for longer battery life
- Balanced - the default mode, a compromise between performance and runtime
- Performance - full CPU and GPU power, faster battery drain; for demanding tasks
Charge thresholds - conservation mode and custom thresholds
This is Vantage's most important feature for battery health. Li-ion batteries wear faster when constantly charged to 100%. Vantage lets you cap the maximum charge level, which slows down capacity loss.
- Conservation Mode (IdeaPad, Legion, Yoga) - charges the battery only to about 60%, toggled with a single switch
- Custom charge thresholds (ThinkPad) - you set two levels:
Start threshold - the level below which the laptop starts charging. Example: 75% means charging starts only when the battery drops below 75%.
Stop threshold - the level at which charging stops. Example: 80% means the battery is never charged above 80%.
If you work mostly on mains power, 75% / 80% works well. Going out for a full day without a charger? Temporarily allow charging to 100% - Vantage makes this a quick switch.
Battery gauge calibration (Battery Gauge Reset)
On ThinkPads the battery gauge can drift over time: it shows e.g. 30% and then the laptop suddenly shuts down. In the power section you will find the battery gauge reset. The procedure fully charges, discharges in a controlled way and recharges the battery, so it takes several hours and the laptop should stay plugged in.
If calibration does not help and the battery still misbehaves, it may simply be worn out. See our battery diagnostics and replacement guide.
Always On USB
With this option you can charge your phone from the laptop's USB port even when the computer is asleep or off. Handy when travelling, at the cost of a little laptop battery.
Warranty and device information
In My Device you will see:
- the serial number (S/N) and model type (MTM)
- Lenovo warranty status
- the BIOS version and technical details
Additional features
- Gaming modes (Legion, selected IdeaPads) - gaming optimisation; on Legions some of these features have moved to the Legion Space app
- Fn Lock - change the default behaviour of F1-F12 (more about ThinkPad keyboards)
- Rapid Charge - shorter charging time at the cost of slightly faster battery wear (selected models)
Looking after your laptop with Vantage
Check System Update once a month. Set charge thresholds if the laptop runs mostly on mains power. For hardware problems, run the diagnostics in Vantage first, then think about service.
